New York, New York - The City That Never Sleeps
Last time I wrote on my blog, I told you Tokyo is the real city that never sleeps but after finding out New York is the only city in the world with a 24 hour subway, I guess they've earned the right to that name. In Tokyo, with subways closing at 1am, by 12:30am you have to make a decision on whether you're staying out all night until the train runs again at 5am or headed home. In New York, you have the freedom to party till any odd hour and grab a $1 slice of pizza for the ride home, maybe grab an extra slice to make friends on the metro. Sounds like a win-win to me!
This trip was so great for me because I got to spend time with some of the BEST people I know! I got to visit some of my day ones and two of my music friends came along and we really made some magic happen!
We ended up shooting a music video for my latest song with Best of the Next called "If I Want To." We shot in some pretty public places like a rooftop bar in Chinatown and with all the cameras and lights, there were bound to be lurking bystanders. I could feel the butterflies in my stomach, while I do love a crowd when performing, I'm still learning to get comfortable in front of the camera. But the nerves soon passed because I got to work with such an incredible team! The video was shot by Dream But Don't Sleep, everyone on the set worked so professionally and really went out of their way to make me feel great. Another huge plus was that I was surrounded by some of my best friends who were all down to shoot a pose for the camera. I even got to work with a stylist for the very first time, Olivia Marie who acted as my fairy godmother and really made me feel like a queen! I hope she can work her magic on all my future video sets!
Check out the behind-the-scenes photos and sneak preview below, the full video will be out March 3rd and we're hosting a release party in San Francisco! You're invited! Here's more info: Best Of The Next Music Video Premiere Party
When visiting New York, make sure to get plenty of rest beforehand! And pack sneakers! There's literally SO much to do and see and you'll be exhausted trotting around the Big Apple after a few days. I made the mistake of only packing my heeled booties so after 4 days of wearing out my poor feet I finally gave in and bought some kicks.
Here's some of my favorite things I enjoyed while in New York:
- Visit the Empire State Building for a great view! Pricey, I know, but we somehow got lucky and were given free tickets upon entry. I think it would have been worth it even if we had paid the price! But bring a jacket because that breeze doesn't quit when you're at the top.
- Visit the Golden Unicorn for some cute and tasty dim sum! You'll leave with a smile on your face.
- Hop on a boat! Whether it's day time or at night for a yacht party, this is a great chance to get a view of the Statue of Liberty and will be something you never forget!
